Two of the largest cities in Ohio, Cincinnati and Columbus are taking different sides in a gambling bill that would allow gambling in the state of Ohio. Elected officials and business leaders in Cincinnati said Monday they support a ballot initiative to permit gambling in Ohio, a sharp contrast to the Columbus Chamber and Columbus Partnership's opposition of Issue 3.
IF the people vote in the new bill they could hen put up to 3,500 slot machines in Ohios seven racetracks and build 2 small casinos in Cleveland.
Part of the profits from these new games would be put towards College tuition grants for needy students.
Many of the community leaders and business owners in the greater Cincinnati have announced their support for this bill and they say it will give the state money to be able to grant more college scholarships without having to raise taxes.
According to one of Cincinnati State Representatives the state will be better off with the extra money then without it.
This bill is also supported by some of Ohios educational groups. Studies show that this bill can bring in 852 million dollars that can be used for tuitions at any of colleges or Universities in Ohio.
There are those in Ohio who feel the bill is a bad idea and that the benefits to the newly allowed gambling will not what they are hoping for.
